This state-of-the-art facility marks a pivotal moment in the global transition to clean energy. By 2026, the megafactory is expected to be operating at full capacity, producing 100 megawatt-hours annually.

"With EPIC, our focus is firmly on driving sustainable innovation, and meeting the growing demand for renewable energy storage. By scaling up our production, we can deliver first-of-all-kind deployments in partnership with utilities and battery system integrators across Europe and globally," said Eloisa de Castro, Enerpoly CEO.

The uses of such batteries are said to be many. For instance, zinc-ion batteries can help balance the power grid by storing surplus renewable energy from sources such as solar and wind. Moreover, these might be used in portable devices like smartphones and laptops.

"The end-to-end battery production line and process development capabilities will allow Enerpoly to accelerate production capabilities; lower costs, waste, and energy consumption; and deliver more sustainable energy storage solutions," the press release noted.

This announcement comes on the heels of Enerpoly’s recent announcement of complete battery cell and pack production capabilities. Moreover, the company raised $8.4 million in investment raised in 2023.

Zinc-ion batteries from Enerpoly are designed to address a wide range of energy storage needs, including grid stabilization, backup power, and applications requiring high levels of reliability.

Interesting Engineering reported that this innovative technology addresses the growing demand for smarter energy storage solutions in wearable devices. The color-changing feature eliminates the need for separate displays, streamlining device design and potentially improving battery life.

Neoen (ISIN: FR0011675362, Ticker: NEOEN), one of the world''s leading producers of exclusively renewable energy, has provided notice to proceed to battery storage expert Nidec at the end of December 2022, signalling the start of construction of Storen Power Reserve. The 40 MW / 40 MWh lithium-ion battery will be located in the municipality of Ragunda, approximately 100 kilometres from Östersund, in Sweden. It will be connected to the 130-kV E.ON grid. The battery is set to be operational in the first half of 2024.

In line with its develop-to-own model, Neoen owns 100% of Storen Power Reserve and will be the long-term operator of the asset. The battery will provide Svenska Kraftnät, the Swedish transmission system operator, with ancillary services – and more precisely Frequency Containment Reserve services. It will help maintain the balance between production and consumption in real time, efficiently enhancing the power system security. The battery will reduce grid stabilisation costs while facilitating the integration of renewable energy assets.

This new asset reflects Neoen''s ambition to become a leading player in Sweden. In addition to the 40 MW / 40 MWh Storen Power Reserve battery, Neoen''s Swedish assets include the Storbrännkullen wind farm (57.4 MW – currently under construction) and the Hultsfred solar park (90 MWp – construction planned for the second half of 2023). Based in Stockholm since 2020, Neoen''s fast-growing Swedish team is developing numerous projects across the country.

Storen Power Reserve is Neoen''s second battery in the Nordics, the first being the 30 MW / 30 MWh Yllikkälä Power Reserve in Finland (in operation since 2020). Neoen is recognised as one of the world''s most dynamic players in storage. The firm is a leading owner and operator of big batteries, with a battery storage portfolio of over 1,000 MW in operation or under construction. In particular, Neoen owns and operates two of the world''s largest batteries: the 300 MW / 450 MWh Victorian Big Battery, and the 150 MW / 193.5 MWh Hornsdale Power Reserve, both in Australia.

Xavier Barbaro, Neoen''s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer concluded: "I would like to congratulate our Swedish team for this major milestone. We are convinced that large-scale battery storage is vital to the energy transition in Sweden, as in the rest of the world. Storage is the key to unlocking the full potential of solar and wind. Through our solar, wind and storage assets in Sweden and elsewhere, we are proud of our leading role in establishing the power generation mix of the 21st century."

Neoen (ISIN: FR0011675362, Ticker: NEOEN), one of the world''s leading producers of exclusively renewable energy, has provided full notice to proceed to battery storage expert Nidec, signalling the start of construction of Isbillen Power Reserve. Following the signing of the turnkey EPC contract in December 2023, the works are now officially starting on site. A ceremony to mark the beginning of construction work took place at the French-Swedish Business Forum organized during the state visit of the French President Macron in Stockholm on 31 January 2024.

Isbillen Power Reserve will be the largest battery in the Nordics. The 93.9 MW / 93.9 MWh lithium-ion battery will be located in the county of Västernorrland, approximately 100 km from Östersund and 6 km from Neoen''s other Swedish battery, Storen Power Reserve (52 MW / 52 MWh), the construction of which is nearly completed. It will be connected to the 130 kV E.ON grid. The battery is set to be operational in the first half of 2025. In line with its develop-to-own model, Neoen owns 100% of Isbillen Power Reserve and will be the long-term operator of the asset.

The battery will provide Svenska Kraftnät, the Swedish transmission system operator, with Frequency Containment Reserve services to help maintain the real-time balance between production and consumption, efficiently enhancing power system security. The battery will also reduce grid stabilization costs while facilitating the integration of renewable energy assets.

The construction of Isbillen Power Reserve favours European industry, with more than half of the value of the project being of European origin: the battery containers will be manufactured and assembled in Nidec''s factory in France. The inverters will be produced in Italy. Civil and electrical works will be carried out by a Swedish company. Finally, project management and engineering will be carried out in Sweden and France.

This new asset reflects Neoen''s ambition to become a leading player in Sweden. In addition to this 93.9 MW / 93.9 MWh Isbillen Power Reserve battery, Neoen''s Swedish assets include the 57 MW Storbrännkullen wind farm, the 52 MW / 52 MWh1 Storen Power Reserve (SPR) battery and the 100 MWp Hultsfred solar park, all three assets currently also under construction. Based in Stockholm since 2020, Neoen''s Swedish team has a healthy projects pipeline across the country, including more than 400 MW storage projects.

Laetitia Prot, Managing Director of Neoen Sweden, said: "We are delighted to be launching the construction of another record-breaking battery project in Sweden. I would like to thank in particular the distribution system operator E.ON and local stakeholders for their active support. With now over 300 MW of assets in operation or under construction in the country, including 146 MW of batteries, we are among the most dynamic players in renewable energy in Sweden."
