Çukurova University, Turkey in collaboration with Ljubljana University, Slovenia and the International Energy Agency Implementing Agreement on Energy Conservation Through Energy Storage (IEA ECES IA) organized a NATO Advanced Study Institute on Thermal Energy Storage for Sustainable Energy Consumption – Fundamentals, Case Studies and Design (NATO ASI TESSEC), in Cesme, Izmir, Turkey in June, 2005. This book contains manuscripts based on the lectures included in the scientific programme of the NATO ASI TESSEC.
As part of the EU-funded research project GeoSmart, a demonstration project on thermal energy storage will be set up at the Kizildere geothermal power plant of Zorlu Energy in Turkey. The EU-fundedGeoSmartproject aims to optimise and demonstrate innovations to improve the flexibility and efficiency of geothermal heat and power systems with demonstration in working geothermal plants — two variants of GeoSmart technology meeting the different flexibility needs of low- and high enthalapy CHP (combined heat and power) provision.
GeoSmart project is planned to be demonstrated in Kizildere field which is the home to oldest geothermal power plant of Turkey.Zorlu Energyis planning to increase its power plant availability and efficiency with the demonstration of thermal energy storage systems and increasing the heat extraction from the reservoir by decreasing the injection temperatures.
